A little something to brighten your day

So I've finished my school and I can't find my iPod or my book...what shall I do??? Blog. It's been to long, sorry! Also I recently realized that I promised pictures of the dance and have not given them, I'm so sorry. The main reason is there aren't very many that I want to post. I hated my dress and it looks even worse in pictures than it did in person, I look awful in candid pics and photographers at events tend to realize that and steer clear. But here's one anyway.

I have no idea who those guys are, they just decided to photo bomb us and it actually turned out my only good picture of the night. (That's me laughing in the middle)

So other things going on (almost wrote "other stuff"...sorry, private joke)

I got a prom dress! I would post pictures but I don't have any and I can't take any 'cause it is at the dry cleaners. It's my favorite color =). It makes me very happy. (Favorite color being Tiffany blue by the way.)

(Example of Tiffany blue)

I have my re-try for my license tomorrow...pray for me! And I get my wisdom teeth out Monday...again PRAY FOR ME!!! I just know I'm gonna do something stupid and embarrass myself for ever, while I'm on the pain meds =(. If I post anything crazy/weird/creepy/soul barring next week please ignore it!

Random thing from Tumbler

Ok so I just saw this random thing on Tumbler, but it's actually kind of cool. So I'm gonna do it for you!

Put itunes on shuffle and list first six songs
50 Ways To Say Goodbye - Train
A Real Gourmet Kitchen - Ratatouille Soundtrack
Deep Breath - Jon Troast
Anyone Can Cook - Ratatouille Soundtrack
Run Over By A Truck - Weezer
Come To Me (Fantine's Death) - Les Miserables Soundtrack (yes this one is staying on)

If you could meet anyone on earth, who would it be?
I have no idea. Most of the people I would really love to meet are dead =( But I really wouldn't mind meeting any of the people who have been on Doctor Who =). Literally any of them.

Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 23. What is line 17?
"When I get to right" (it's a poetry book)

What do you think about most?
Usually I have absolutely no idea. At the moment though probably my play. (I'm in The Hiding Place)

Ever had a poem or song written about you?
Yes! My brother wrote a song...well I guess it was more for me than about me...but still.

Do you have any strange phobias?
Nazis (which is really fun seeing as I get to play a Nazi in this play =/.) Impromptu speaking. Purple food. Statues. Tally marks. Playing copy-cat. Most of those are due to Doctor Who though and as such make perfect sense.

If you are outside what are you most likely doing?
Lame as it sounds I'm usually just sitting in the sun thinking about stuff.

Favorite band?
Maybe Imagine Dragons. Maybe Mumford and Sons. Maybe Train...or Nora Jones...there's way to many options.

What's a sound you hate?
Wet shoes squeaking.

What's a sound you love?
Rain, wind-chimes, jazz music.

Where is your best friend?
About five minutes from my house.

You are at the doctor’s office and she has just informed you that you have approximately one month to live. a) Do you tell anyone/everyone you are going to die? b) What do you do with your remaining days? c) Would you be afraid?
No I wouldn't tell anyone except my closest friends. I would travel as far as I could. I don't know if I would be afraid...I doubt anyone really knows until the time comes.

What's a song that always makes you happy when you hear it?
Winter Winds - Mumford and Sons

What would you want to be written on your tombstone?
Same thing that's on F. Scott Fitzgerald's. "And so we beat on, boats against the current born back ceaselessly into the past." The last sentence in The Great Gatsby.

Give me the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word "heart."
I think of the Doctor and the fact that he's got two. "Pity the man with two."

You just got a free plane ticket to anywhere. You have to depart right now. Where are you gonna go?
Um...duh! Paris!

Answer one (or more) of your favorites in the comments! And ask any more you want, I'll answer =).

This man was good friends with beautiful words.

F. Scott Fitzgerald: Descriptive genius. Personal word idol.

some favorite quotes

The longer you watch it the funnier it gets!

The US version of Harry Potter is surprisingly short.
Sorry I didn't post the last few days! Oh wait...you probably don't care. That's ok. It wasn't very interesting anyway. I'll go back and tell you all about it chronologically. *evil smile* =}

So Saturday afternoon my mom and I went to Walmart to pick up some things I needed for the dance and on the way over decided that I was gonna need a new dress. Which meant a trip to TJMaxx. I am not a huge TJ lover. They had one cute black dress. It fit perfectly, it was comfortable, it was modest...it was boring! I like it very much as a casual dress, but it was not the dress to wear to a dance. Oh well. The earrings worked really well, and I had tons of fun. On the drive home we sang "Down On The Corner" "Yellow Submarine" and Sam sang "Why Patty's Not At Work Today" a hilarious Irish ballad (that is always sung falsetto and in a Irish accent - and very well sung may I add). It was a blast =). Sunday I worked on the nursery, which means I did both services and didn't get to go to church =( and then I went shopping with some friends for a prom dress. Wow. It was the most depressing thing! Everything was either ugly, strapless, to expensive, or didn't fit! It was awful. And then yesterday. I got a consultation on getting my wisdom teeth pulled (and my mother refused to promise to keep me away from all phones/computer/video cameras!) and then I got to go get another filling. And that's pretty much what I did all day. Today has been lovely though! I think my second-worst-week-ever is over...I hope!

I'll post pictures of the dance as soon as someone emails me back with the link. Gosh, Scooter get on the computer already! You know your life revolves around what I need from you!

I'm feeling silly and sarcastic...can you all tell? =P

Retro/gypsy.

My mother found a real Polaroid camera at a garage sale...for two dollars!!!!!!! I'm just a little bit excited =).

The only problem is she won't let me have it =(. But we made a deal, if I buy myself film than I can use it. And that's cool 'cause the film we have doesn't work =). I wanted to take it to the dance tonight...but it turns out that you have to order the film online because they don't make it any more. How stupid is that? Oh well.

My collection of awesome retro...stuff is getting quite impressive =).

To date I have: a record player (far left), a typewriter (top) a rotary phone (far right) I actually have two rotary phones...that's just the cooler one =). and a Polaroid camera (middle). I am very proud of myself and my mother =)

Last night I slept in my 'gypsy tent' it wasn't perfect, but it was very nice =). I woke up really early, and it was really pretty out. I wish I woke up early more often...but I hate waking up to an alarm so...=/

When I was setting up my tent (we already had a gazebo out front and I just hung a bunch of sheets/table cloths/scarves on the walls) I was about to use a scarf that had been given to me as a hand me down...

...when I saw this in the corner.

Needless to say the scarf stayed in my room...!!!!!

Happy Saturday =D

Gypsy in my soul

There's something about these first few warm days in Spring that just make me want to buy an old gypsy caravan, a tent and a random field in the middle of nowhere and camp out for a few weeks.

This evening my family are all going out, so I am going to deck out the gazebo in front of our house like a gypsy tent and sleep out there tonight.

"Never Alone"

Even though the actual song is a love song, I think that the verses are a wonderful prayer to pray for a friend. Don't you?

"May the angels pretect you
Trouble neglect you
And heaven accept you when its time to go home
May you always have plenty
Your glass never empty
And know in your bellyYou're never alone

May your tears come from laughing
You find friends worth having
With every year passing
They mean more than gold
May you win but stay humble
Smile more than grumble
And know when you stumble
You're never alone"

                    - Never Alone Lady Antebellum

New template

So I felt like the old template, pretty though it was, wasn't very spring-y. And I'm feeling spring-y. So I changed it =).

Yesterday and today

So the end of yesterday was pretty much in character with the beginning and middle. I went back to the dentist around 3:00 and got two fillings. When I got home I found that Mommy had made a delicious dinner...that I couldn't eat because the entire left side of my mouth was numb. Then I got to go back to church to do more childcare. But this time instead of my favorite baby, there were the four Demon Children. It was a little bit awful. But I managed to get through it without yelling at anyone and I only put Demon Child 3 in time out once. My motivation all the way through was "Get through it. Go to Target. Get white earrings for the dance." I got through it. I got to Target. There were no white earrings. None. When I got home things took a turn for the better when I opened the dishwasher and found that I didn't have to unload it, because it was dirty, and then I got a nice hot bath and went to bed.

Today started out even worse than yesterday. I had a terrifying dream about an 8 year old psycho who threw her baby brother out of the seventh story window. It is absolutely impossible to describe how awful she was. I then woke up to the wonderful smell of the mess my dog had made all over the floor. And that is not hyperbole. It was all over the floor. The rest of the day has actually been quite nice though.

And just as I was writing that my mom called out "The dog has an upset stomach!" and she (the dog, not my mother) had made another mess. This time in the kitchen though >P. But oh well. These things happen right?

Back to the nice things that have happened today. We watched the latest episode of Psych. I got my allergy shots, which I guess isn't really nice per say but it wasn't bad. And then I went to Charming Charlie and got my earrings! They are very pretty. I'll post a picture on Sunday with the rest of the pictures from the dance =). I also got a really pretty black clutch at CC so my outfit for the dance is all ready. I tried it on, and I love it, I can't wait to share it with you!

Thank God for rainbow sherbet

So I failed my driver test. I brushed the white line twice!!! *gasp* I'm feeling a little bitter can you tell? Oh well. Daddy bought me a gallon of rainbow sherbet on the way home, and that helped. Don't worry it wasn't all for me, and there's still plenty left for when I get home from the dentist. Wow. Today really is awful isn't it? Oh well.

Let's talk about something happy! I'm going to a dance on Saturday! I an very excited, it's gonna be tons of fun. The theme is black and white and I have a really pretty black dress to wear, I have nothing white but that means - oh darn - I have to go shopping. =) I'll post pictures and things on Sunday.

Random

This morning I slept past my alarm that went off at 7:00. Daddy woke me up ten minutes before we had to leave for the dentist. So I didn't really get breakfast. I hate the dentist. When Ann (my dental hygienist) finished torturing me, I went straight to my job. I do childcare at my church. We sat outside in the sun and my favorite baby in the world opted to spend most of the time sitting, quiet and happy on my lap. I have to leave any minute now to go do my driver test, and hopefully get my licence =D That is a good thing. Also!!! I can't believe I haven't posted about this already but...I GOT A CAR!!! It's beautiful =).

It's name is Pond, and when ever I turn it on I say "Come along Pond" like in Doctor Who =). The CD player doesn't work, it doesn't have a horn and the back, right blinker is currently on vacation, but I love it anyway. Plus this means I can buy an awesome air-horn to stick just outside the drivers window =D

Cotton Candy

Ever since I can remember, Summer has meant at least one River Cats game. (The River Cats being the  Sacramento based AA team for the A's)

When I was little I loved going to these games, but being an antsy little kid I had a hard time waiting for the 7th inning stretch. So my dad - who loves baseball, devised a plan. If I could tell him the score in the 5th inning, he would buy me a bag of cotton candy. I love cotton candy. Always have. Always will. So this worked quite well.

I now love baseball and pay attention with out needing the incentive, and yet 5th inning still means the same thing. It still means that Daddy buys a bag of cotton candy for his little girl. And it's still one of my favorite parts of the trip. Not just because I love cotton candy - although that also comes into it - but because it is special. It's the time when for a few moments I can stop being 17 and be 8 again.

Best compliment I've ever gotten...

So I sent the link to this blog to Sam (the guy in the previous post) and his response was: "you are about as lacking in creativity as a rainbow colored giraffe walking on water during a snow storm of cotton candy in the middle of New York all while smoking a pipe and wearing a top hat!" Wow. I really think that is the best compliment I have ever received! And that means that it trumps the time when my friend came up to me after church (when I was wearing a new awesomely classy new hat) and said "hey Audrey" =D. Thanks for making my day Sam!

The story of the inadvertent cease-fire

Yesterday I got back from the last speech tournament of the year. I have a duo with a guy named Sam, on The Taming Of The Shrew. (If you don't know what that is don't you DARE comment asking. Go and Google it you uncultured swine!) We didn't do as well as we had hoped, but it didn't matter as much as I expected. True, I felt like crying when they announced "breaks" (who was advancing  to the final round) and our names were not called, but I managed not to for a few minutes and then I didn't feel like it anymore because Sam is hilarious and he cheered me up.

The trip was really quite wonderful even if the actual tournament wasn't. We met a whole bunch of really cool Oregonians, and got to know two other Californians much better than we used to. Plus we had some really good conversations. We tend to talk about really random, weird stuff (for example: "If you take a bite of someone and they taste gross that is still cannibalistic. But if you just smell them and think they would taste gross, that isn't." Yes, that conversation actually occurred.) But we also talked about how we really became Christians and how we found our churches (he's Catholic and I'm Episcopalian.) And the last night of the trip we stayed up 'till around 2:00am, sitting outside, talking about...well everything. (That's when the "cannibalistic/not cannibalistic" conversation happened.)

We've known each other for about five years, but - of course - weren't friends when we were younger. In fact I wouldn't say that we were really friends until sometime this year, I can't peg exactly when we became friends...it just happened.

The foundation was kind of laid last year, when Sam joined our speech and debate club, doing only debate, and a cease-fire was inadvertently called. I was doing a duo with another friend who lived about an hour away. We had tons of fun, but it was hard on our moms seeing as neither of us drove, so this year mummy said "no duos with anyone on the 80 corridor" (my friend lives near highway 80) "but why not Sam?"  Sam on the other hand lives about five minutes away. My response was "Mum, you are thinking geographically, but not realistically." And she was...but then..."Well, actually! Why not? That could work!" I thought about it a few minutes and then, slowly..."Yes...it could! I'll call him." I think it kind of freaked him out when I called, but he agreed "That could be fun! I'll do it." I had an idea to do a section of a Dickens, but we decided against it. Instead we decided to 'play to our strengths'. What were our strengths? Why, pretending to hate each other of course! So The Taming Of The Shrew was chosen. We started working and somewhere in the middle of writing, practicing and brainstorming we found that we were friends.

He is now, the only person who has ever been allowed to see the inside of my journal, one of the only people who has seen me cry because I'm sad, the only person I told about the extent of a certain crush I had, and one of the only people who I am absolutely completely comfortable with. We can say literally anything to each other, and it's not awkward because we pretty much always know what the other one means. It's really great. Plus, I beat him twice in a row at air hockey and once at bowling =D.

On the drive home from the tournament (it was in Medford) we made up an island called Zebora, and drew a map. It's awesome.

One of my favorite things about it are the "petrichorian elephants". They are like normal elephants, only smaller (they are usually only about five-six feet tall, but the big ones are about 7) and reddish. Plus they are very gentle and obedient. In other words, the perfect pet =D.

This is an illustration by your's truly =)

"The city clears and sun ascends"

There is one window in my bedroom. That one window faces North and slightly West, and is under a deck. Not much light gets through it. In the Winter the sun never really comes in. But in the Summer it comes in for a little while just before it set, and there is one evening in the Spring, when I walk into my room and there is a narrow beam of late sunlight on my wall. That is one of the best days of my year. Today was that day.

Not long ago I put a bunch of new pictures on my wall. One of them is of my grandmother from when she was young. The sun hit it perfectly, and for a moment it felt like she was in the room with me again.

"And if your strife strikes at your sleep
Remember spring swaps snow for leaves
You'll be happy and wholesome again

When the city clears and sun ascends"

               - Winter Winds by Mumford and Sons
